Summer Camp News

Leaving on Sun. May 28th, 11am
Boys must be checked in with the Troop leaders prior to leaving so please be on time. Plan to be at the Winter Springs Civic Center (subject to change) early to check in your son, any medicines, banking.
Return will be Saturday, June 3rd , approximately noon , depending upon morning check out time of camp. Pick up will be at the Winter Springs Civic Center (subject to change).
Pick up time and location is subject to change- parents MUST leave a phone number that you can be reached Saturday morning. This number should be listed on the permission slip to be returned to Laura Johnston or Kerry Gamble

Lunch: Each scout should bring a lunch with them on 05/28/06.
How will we get there: Leaders will ride be driving their own vehicles to camp. All boys should be in the class B troop t-shirt for travel to and from camp. Bathing Suit, towel and Class A shirt should be packed on top.
How much: $200 per scout for base camp (COPE Program additional $45); Some merit badges require additional fees which will be collected at the check in. All merit badge fees should be in a separate envelope, with the scout’s name on it and the merit badge(s). These should be turned in to the banker in a separate envelope marked with your son’s name and “Merit Badgesâ€.
Troop Photos, Uniforms: Boys will change into full class A uniform immediately upon arrival to camp. All shorts are to be scout shorts or green equivalent, scout socks, hat, class B t-shirts. NO gym short type shorts!
Medicines: All medicines (Prescription & Non-Prescription) will be checked in with the Adult Medical person in the original prescription bottle with the prescription directions. Under no circumstances are any boys to possess any medicines.
REMEMBER, your dues and fees need to be paid up or you will not be able to participate.
Physicals: Class 1 & 2 medical examinations are required. Class 1 forms are completed by parents annually. Class 2 are completed by physicians and are good for three years. Class 3 medical examinations for High Adventure programs, adults over 40 years of age.
Bank: There will be an adult banker who will collect and disburse the funds as instructed by a parent. Please put in an envelope with your son's name on it and instructions on how you'd like it distributed (example: Baden Powell, $5 each day or Baden Powell, as needed). For example, if you'd like to distribute $5/day, please put 6- $5 dollar bills in an envelope “ DO NOT SEAL “ The adult banker and you will count together prior to sealing the envelope. The banker cannot make change, so please provide funds in denominations like you'd like to have distributed.
You and your son may elect for the scout to carry their own funds. The troop is not responsible for funds lost by a scout.
Phone Calls: Scouts cannot receive phone calls at camp unless there is a family emergency. Do not expect to hear from your son until return on June 3rd. The boys are kept very busy and typically there is no time to make phone calls in camp.

How/what to pack
Each scout is limited to an Action Packer or equivalent size container (24 gallons). These will be loaded into an empty troop trailer for the travel. Bathing suit, towel and wet shoes should be packed on top. Class A uniform should be neatly packed or hung for the picture. Please reference the attached equipment sheet. DO NOT PACK 2-WAY RADIOS FOR SCOUTS. CAMP RULES ARE ONLY FOR ADULTS TO CARRY THEM.
Tent Buddy: We will still be using the tent buddy system. Two scouts per tent. First year scouts are to use the buddy system throughout the week (your tent buddy).
Merit Books should be purchased and brought with you to camp. (Travel Country in Altamonte Springs or the Scout shop in Apopka, (407)814-1040 , Mon-Fri 9am-6pm , Sat 10am-3pm, Sun Closed) Do not depend upon the camp to have your books available. Check with the Troop Librarian to see what's available.
