2007-03-06 Summer Camp

Troop 196 will be spending 2007 summer camp at Lumpkin Scout Reservation June 17th through the 23rd.

Some information from Camp Lumpkin follows:

With more than 1000 acres and 30 miles of shoreline on beautiful West Point Lake, Camp Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. provides a unique setting for an exciting outdoor experience. Since 1999, the Chattahoochee Council has hosted summer at Camp Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Over four million dollars has been spent on capital development to make it one of the South's premier camping facilities.
Camp Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. hosts the summer camp program of the Chattahoochee Council. Over 50 merit badges are offered for those Scouts working toward the Eagle Scout rank. Other programs include a first year program for our newest Scouts and a special "Trek Adventure" program for Scouts and Venturers ages 14-20. A certified C.O.P.E. course is also a part of the High Adventure program.

Camp Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. is a part of the Chattahoochee Council Scout Reservation. It is located approximately 15 miles northwest of LaGrange, Georgia, on beautiful West Point lake. The reservation is on the property formerly known as the Autry Day Use Facility, which was managed by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. Now it is home to the Chattahoochee Council camping program and hosts our summer camp each year.

The Chattahoochee Council is excited about entering the 9th season of operating summer camp at Camp Lumpkin. Camp Lumpkin is part of the Chattahoochee Council Scout Reservation, which is located approximately 15 miles west of LaGrange, Georgia, on beautiful Lake West Point. While Lake West Point surrounds the camp, program areas and campsites are nestled throughout wooded areas of the reservation.

Camp Lumpkin has been developed into one of the premier camping facilities in the Southeast and is the home of the Chattahoochee Council rapidly growing summer camp program. Facilities at Camp Lumpkin include seven 40 – 50 person campsites with canvas tents. Each campsite contains a powered pavilion with ceiling fans ans shares enclosed bathhouses with hot showers and flush toilets with neighboring campsites. Each campsite has a water source located within the site.

Facilities also include an air-conditioned Dining Hall, Trading Post, and Health Lodge, and a fully equipped Headquarters Building. Our amphitheatre overlooks beautiful Lake West Point. Program Facilities include a Climbing and Rappelling Tower, COPE Course, Junior Olympic-sized Swimming Pool and a fully developed waterfront.

As we continue to develop Camp Lumpkin into a premier program facility for all Scouts. We are proud to announce the return of several popular programs. Unique program options such as the Lumpkin Trek programs, Whitewater Rafting on the Ocoee River and the Coca-Cola Space Science Center’s Astronomy program allow Scouts to participate in a one of a kind program.
